Record Hungarian Tourism Over 20 Million Visitors - Top 10 Visiting Nations Revealed
The number of guests who stayed at tourism accommodations in Hungary rose to over 20 million in 2025, a new record, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency just announced.

Zoltan Guller noted that the number of guests was double the population of Hungary. He also said passenger numbers at Liszt Ferenc International had reached a record 19 million in 2025.

Guller added that the number of foreign tourists and domestic travellers who stayed at tourism accommodations were about the same.

In the capital, the number of foreigners reached 7 million and the number of Hungarians was over 1 million

- while foreign visitor numbers came close to 3.5 million and the number of domestic travellers reached 9 million at destinations in the rest of the country, he added.

Destinations around Lake Balaton drew 3.4 million guests, including over 2.5 million domestic travellers. Accommodations around the lake generated revenue of around HUF 218bn.

Arrivals from Germany, Romania, Poland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Czechia, Austria, Slovakia, the United States and Spain made up the most bookings.

The number of guest nights in Hungary reached 48,920,000 in 2025, up from 46,650,000 a year earlier.

Spending using SZEP voucher card balances reached HUF 492bn in 2025. SZEP card top-ups came to HUF 499bn.

Guller said the most important goal in future was improving quality and drawing more big-spending tourists, rather than boosting the overall number of travellers.

He also said Budapest needed to boost capacity in the three- to four-star hotel category to meet demand.
