Celebrated annually on 1 July, Canada Day marks the anniversary of Canadian Confederation in 1867, when the British North America Act united Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, laying the foundations of modern Canada.

Today, the national holiday celebrates the country's history, diversity and shared democratic values. In Hungary the event venue chosen this year was Pasarét Bisztró in Budapest.

Celebrating Friendship & Cooperation

Opening the event, Nicholas Sarvári, President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, welcomed guests and reflected on the importance of Canada Day as an opportunity to celebrate the strong and enduring relationship between Canada and Hungary.

The evening provided an ideal setting for networking and informal conversations, bringing together representatives of the business and diplomatic communities in a warm and festive atmosphere.



The gathering highlighted the close economic, cultural and personal ties that continue to strengthen relations between the two countries.

For the CCCH, the annual celebration is also an important opportunity to connect members, partners and friends who play an active role in fostering Canadian-Hungarian cooperation.

Farewell to Ambassador François Lafrenière



This year's celebration also marked the farewell to François Lafrenière, Ambassador of Canada to Hungary, as he concludes his diplomatic posting.

During his tenure, Ambassador Lafrenière has been a strong advocate for closer Canadian-Hungarian relations and a valued supporter of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hungary.

Throughout the evening, guests expressed their appreciation for his leadership, commitment and friendship, thanking him for his contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting the Canadian community in Hungary.

The event was therefore not only a joyful celebration of Canada Day, but also a heartfelt opportunity to recognise Ambassador Lafrenière's lasting contribution and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.
