Private Banking in Hungary Now More Exclusive as Entry Limits Rise
- 30 Jul 2026 11:33 AM
Despite global geopolitical tensions, oil price volatility and a stronger forint, assets under management increased by more than 5% in the first half of 2026 and over 12% compared with a year earlier.
The number of private banking clients in Hungary continued to fall however, dropping to just over 62,000 accounts. As a result, the average amount held in each account climbed to almost HUF 220 million, the highest level on record.
Banks are also making private banking increasingly exclusive by raising their minimum entry requirements.
Hold Asset Management increased its threshold from HUF 120 million to HUF 160 million, while OTP raised the minimum for its digital private banking service from HUF 20 million to HUF 50 million.
Bank Gutmann remains the most exclusive provider, with an entry threshold of around HUF 355 million, followed by OTP's premium private banking service and Apelso, both requiring HUF 300 million.
SPB now has the lowest entry point at HUF 40 million.
OTP Private Banking continues to manage the largest pool of client assets, while Concorde and Apelso recorded the strongest asset growth during the first half of the year.
The survey also found that, for the first time, the average client account at every private banking provider now exceeds HUF 100 million, underlining both the growing wealth of clients and the trend towards higher minimum investment requirements.
