She noted that misunderstandings about drinking water supplies have emerged in recent days. The spokesperson said she understood the concerns, as many people have seen reports of temporary drops in water pressure or the appearance of water tankers.

Supplies are adequate and water has not run out, she said, adding that temporary disruptions are due to increased consumption during the heatwave, which empties reservoirs faster, while water treatment facilities have limited capacity.

Water tankers are a safety guarantee and part of protocol: if a settlement experiences a pipe burst or a temporary drop in pressure, the provider immediately arranges a replacement supply, she said.

Restrictions serve to protect drinking water, Kobol said, emphasising that this is best supported by everyone paying attention to their own consumption.

She advised people not to use drinking water for gardening, car washing, or filling swimming pools, and to avoid unnecessary water use, preferring showers over baths.

Tap water in Hungary is of good quality, safe, and available, she said. The government asked everyone not to believe unfounded rumours, and said there is no need to rush to shops, as "the purest source is still in all our homes, in our own taps."
