It might not be obvious but Hungarian and Turkish music history and folk music have a lot in common. This concert presents two excellent Turkish musicians and introduces Turkish music to the audiences. Composed by Ahmed Adnan Saygun, the ‘Bartók of Turkey’ in 1975, Ritual Dance melts elements of Western music and Turkish authentic folk music in a unique way.

Richard Strauss was born 150 years ago, in 1864. For many, he is a creator of operas, the composer of Salome, Elektra, Der Rosenkavalier, and The Woman without a Shadow. For others, his name signifies symphonic poems such as A Hero’s Life, Till Eulenspiegel and Zarathustra. He was also responsible for great lieder, like the incomparable Four Lasts Songs.

This year’s Budapest Spring Festival will offer twice as many events and twice as many venues as last year, the organisers said on Tuesday. The 34th Budapest Spring Festival to be held between March 21 and April 6 will offer 172 events at 58 venues including classical and contemporary music, theatre and fine art.
