Bartok Legacy to Boost Hungary-Romania Cultural Ties in New HUF 753 Million Project
Hungary and Romania are launching a cross-border joint cultural project focusing on the legacy of Hungarian composer Bela Bartok with European Union support, Zoltan Nogradi, the mayor of Morahalom, in southern Hungary said.

The two-year project involving the cooperation of local councils and civil groups is aimed at reaching out to young people through the arts, he said.

The 753 million forint (EUR 1.9m) project will feature a total of 20 events on both sides of the border, Nogradi said. It will also involve infrastructure developments focused on Bartok's home town of Sannicolau Mare (Nagyszentmiklos), where a memorial house will also be set up.

Agnes Toth Grof, the project manager, said the aim was to strengthen cross-border ties between generations, communities and art forms over the coming months.

The programmes will be geared towards young people and will include exchange programmes, masterclasses, music, literature, dance and visual arts events she said.

Meanwhile, Orban to meet Romanian counterpart on Wednesday

Prime Minister Viktor Orban will hold talks with Romanian counterpart, Ilie Bolojan, under the arrangements of a working dinner in Bucharest on Wednesday evening, the prime minister's communications department said.

The prime ministers of Hungary and Romania will hold personal consultations for the first time since Bolojan's appointment in June.

After the talks in Bucharest, Orban will travel to Baile Tuşnad (Tusnadfurdo) where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the 34th Balvanyos Free Summer University on Saturday.
