The two British men arrested on a train in Lökösháza on Wednesday opted for a simplified procedure whereby they will be extradited to the UK within ten days, when they appeared in court yesterday. The Capital Court placed Omar Trevor Brooks and Simon Jonathan Keller into custody. They were travelling without identification in defiance of a ban on leaving the UK.

The Debrecen Court of Appeals yesterday extended from 10 years to 12 the prison sentence given to a former judge who had been convicted of taking bribes. The judge had accepted payment in exchange for more lenient treatment. The judge was suspended in January 2012, and is now banned for ten years from public affairs and banned for life from working as a judge or lawyer.

Three men have been taken into custody in Szeged, southeast Hungary, in connection with the theft of 2,000 euros from four Syrian migrants near the M5 motorway, local police said. Spokeswoman Csilla Gyugyi said the suspects offered to transport the migrants from Roszke, on the southern border with Serbia, to Budapest for 250 euros per head.
