Thousands Demonstrate Against Animal Cruelty In Budapest

Thousands of people held a demonstration against animal cruelty in Budapest on Saturday. The demonstration, held in front of Parliament, was organised by more than 120 animal welfare organisations. Following the speeches, the organisers handed over a proposal to introduce heavier penalties for animal cruelty to a representative of parliament’s agricultural committee.

Hungary’s Cancer Deaths At European Average

In Hungary 26% of deaths were caused by cancer in 2013, which is exactly the European average, according to data published by Eurostat on Wednesday, World Cancer Day. Lung cancer accounted for 26% of cancer deaths in Hungary, which is the highest rate in the European Union.

The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has nominated Hungarian director László Nemes Jeles’s film Son of Saul for an Academy Award in the best foreignlanguage film category. Son of Saul was recently awarded a Golden Globe, following several international awards including the Grand Prix at the 68th Cannes Film Festival last year.
