Kayaker Natasa Douchev-Janics can compete for Serbia only if she pays €150,000 by October 31, the Hungarian Kayak-Canoe Federation confirmed yesterday. The federation calls the sum “preparation contribution” and said anybody can pay it on Janics’ behalf.

Tax officials disguised as football fans carried out raids during the European Championship football tournament last month. The Budapest Court of Appeals has ruled in favour of Hungarian inventor Laszlo Oroszi against sportswear giant Adidas, ending a ten-year legal battle in a patent infringement case. The court ruled that Adidas unlawfully used Oroszi's patent without his authorisation in making football boots.
