Gábor Czene of Népszabadság conducted an interview with Tamás Fabiny, bishop of the northern district of the Hungarian Lutheran Church. Fabiny was ordained in Erlangen, Germany in 1982. He also studied in the United States. In addition to his church activities he worked for Duna TV. Since 2010 he has been the vice chairman of the Lutheran World Federation.

State energy company MVM will buy German investor RWE’s 49.83% stake in Budapest gas distributor Fõgáz, according to reports. A high ranking RWE representative met state officials and Budapest mayor István Tarlós last week, as the city owns 50% of the company. Retail shareholders have 0.17% of Fõgáz shares.

Euronews on Wednesday officially opened its Budapest office, and its head, Attila Kert told the event that the channel would be showing the world to Hungary. Kert emphasised that the international news channel’s Hungarian-language broadcast was not a Hungarian-language channel concerning Hungary.

The Hungarian government has been actively recruiting new citizens from the neighboring countries, presumably to add to their vote total at the next national election. In order to be eligible for citizenship a person must have at least one ancestor who was a Hungarian citizen. He must also have some knowledge of the Hungarian language.
