Car Market Insight: New Registrations in Hungary Down 9%

The number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary fell 9.2pc year-on-year to 8,287 in January, data compiled by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) show.
Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 62pc of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 20pc and vehicles with diesel engines 8pc. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for over 9pc of sales.
Sales of battery electric vehicles climbed 38.3pc to 780 during the period.
Meanwhile, Astotec Automotive Hungary inaugurates HUF 3.6bn capacity expansion
Austrian-owned Astotec Automotive Hungary inaugurated a HUF 3.6bn capacity expansion at its base in Papa (W Hungary) on Monday.
The investment, which helped retain 700 jobs, was supported by a HUF 825m government grant, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at the ceremony.
Output of Hungary's automotive sector exceeded HUF 13,000bn last year, he said.
Astotec is a supplier to car makers including Audi, Mercedes and BMW.
