Three Hungarian films and one co-production with Hungarian participation are up for competition at the 70th Cannes film festival which kicks off Wednesday evening. The Hungarian National Film Foundation said Hungary is leading the number of competing films among Central European countries.

In the Parliament building on Friday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Olympic and Paralympic achievements unite the Hungarian people. He was speaking at an event in which, together with President János Áder and Speaker of the House László Kövér, he awarded decorations to the Hungarian athletes who won medals at the Olympics and Paralympics in Rio.

A public TV announcer commenting on a broadcast of the Olympics yesterday failed to mention the name of a swimmer representing the Refugee Olympic Team, even after she won her heat, causing an outcry in the press and social media. The Helsinki Committee questioned if the omission was political, but the commentator blamed a technical error.

President János Áder formally opened a Hungarian House created to help promote Hungary’s 20214 Olympic bid in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. The venue, where Hungary’s past Olympic successes and an interactive exhibition presenting the Budapest’s 2024 Olympic bid are on display, is located in an equestrian club on the shore of Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon and is open for supporters.
