A biometric ID system has started operating at border control in Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport, an official said on Thursday. Zoltán Török, head of the Airport Police Directorate, said that the system operated on the departure side in order to ensure fast border control.

The Foreign Ministry has advised Hungarians against travelling to Crimea after the “uncertain and dangerous political and security situation” which has developed since the March 16 referendum. Hungary’s two biggest regional airports expect rising passenger numbers this year, business daily Napi Gazdaság said on Friday. Passenger numbers at the Hévíz- Balaton Airport in the west of the country are set to rise to 35,000-37,000 this year, Hévíz mayor Gábor Papp told the paper.

Budapest Airport and Ryanair have come up with a pleasant Christmas surprise enabling passengers to take onboard minor size duty free items purchased before departure. For the first time, small size duty free items will be allowed onboard Ryanair aircraft. This new rule comes in to effect as of 1st December 2013 on all flights of Ryanair across their network, including from Budapest Airport.
