A painting by 20th century Hungarian constructivist László Moholy-Nagy represents the highest-value private donation of an artwork granted to a Hungarian museum since the country’s post-communist transformation, László Baán, the director general of the Hungarian National Gallery, said.

Manuscripts by the 19th century Hungarian composer Ferenc (Franz) Liszt, long thought lost, have been returned to the Liszt Memorial Museum and Research Center after being discovered in a private collection. The music is closely related to Hungary and the Revolution of 1848.

The Hungarian Revolution of 1848 was one of many of the European Revolutions that year, and was closely linked to other 1848 revolutions in the Habsburg areas. The revolution in the Kingdom of Hungary grew into a war for independence from the Austrian Empire, ruled by the Habsburg monarchy.
