Ruling party Fidesz is set to receive more than half of the seats in the European Parliament assigned to Hungary, according to a survey by the Nézőpont Institute. Among people declaring themselves certain to vote, 46% backed Fidesz MEP candidates, translating into 11 seats.

Gordon Bajnai will top the opposition E-PM party alliance’s list of candidates for the European parliamentary elections, the party’s officials told a press conference. Benedek Jávor, co-chairman of the opposition Dialogue for Hungary (PM), will be second on the list, but Bajnai would not take a seat in the EP, Jávor would be the first to become an MEP, if elected.

Jobbik president Gábor Vona underlined that the decision is not a consequence of Szegedi’s recently discovered Jewish ancestry, but was made because he tried to bribe a person to keep that ancestry secret.
