The Hungarian State Opera as a national institution regards it as its duty to support the opera playing of other Hungarian towns. This realization led to the birth of the Primavera series in 2013 which allows guest companies to present their productions at the Erkel Theatre over a week.
Budapest Opera Tribute Concert To Annie Fischer On 100th Birthday

The Hungarian State Opera House will host a tribute concert to celebrate the birth centenary of world-renowned Hungarian pianist Annie Fischer on April 14. Pianists Jenő Jandó, Tamás Vásáry, Ilona Prúnyi and Katalin Falvai will play solos accompanied by the Solti Chamber Orchestra to commemorate the artist, who died in 1995, Vásáry told a press conference in Budapest.

Juanjo Mena, one of today’s best-known, busiest maestros, is currently principal conductor with the BBC Philharmonic. Earlier he worked in Spain, his homeland, in Italy, and in Norway, where he was principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

The central concept of this last performance in a joint series of the Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok and the Palace of Arts is the human desire to possess the unattainable. The unattainable as a devilish temptation is at the same time one of the prerequisites for knowledge and growth.

How can the story of half a century be encapsulated in two hours? Formed in 1963, vocal group The Swingle Singers will endeavour to do even more this evening in a show put together for the 50th anniversary of their foundation, throwing in some new numbers as well.

The first marathon at the Palace of Arts in 2008 showcased the works of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The series of 11 concerts on a single day covered a cross-section of the great master's ouevre and exceeded all expectations with its unique theme and atmosphere. In the years that followed, the organisers put together marathon programmes of the work of Dvořák, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Bartók.

The New Year’s Concert is a highly successful tradition of several years standing at the Palace of Arts. In 2013, we had the opportunity to hear Haydn‘s oratorio The Seasons with Helmuth Rilling, while on the first day of 2014 the work will be presented by another world-renowned conductor in the shape of René Jacobs.
