Martin Grubinger & BBC Philharmonic, National Concert Hall, 25 March
- 24 Mar 2014 8:00 AM
Between 1999 and 2008, he was artistic director and principal conductor of the Bilbao Symphonic Orchestra. He has appeared at the helm of great European orchestras, and made his US debut in 2004. As an opera conductor, he feels most at home in the 19th and 20th century repertoire, having conducted the works of Wagner, Richard Strauss, Bartók and Schoenberg.
The soloist of the Budapest concert is Austrian “percussion magician” Martin Grubinger. Despite his age, the young musician, who was born in Salzburg in 1983, and studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and the Salzburg Mozarteum, is one of today’s most sought-after percussion soloists.
