The European Commission is urging Hungary to bring its national legislation on assessing the effects of projects on the environment in line with EU rules. On the recommendation of Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik, the Commission is therefore sending a reasoned opinion. In the absence of a satisfactory response within two months, the Commission may refer the case to the EU Court of Justice.
China Firm May Cancel Project In Szolnok, Hungary

China’s BBCA Group will probably cancel its plans to build a citric acid factory in Szolnok as Hungary has not fulfilled its duties and has not made its required financial contribution, Napi Gazdaság reports. BBCA is looking for an alternative location, possibly Miskolc or a site in Veszprém county, but possibly also Belgium.
