New EU Entry & Exit System Now in Force at Budapest Airport
- 19 Nov 2025 8:50 AM
At Ferenc Liszt International Airport (Budapest Airport), implementation of the EES began on November 18, 2025, and is being introduced gradually.
Who is Affected?
The new regulation only applies to passengers holding non-EU passports who are traveling for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period). The EES registers these third-country nationals every time they cross an external Schengen border.
What to Expect
Non-EU passport holders should temporarily anticipate potentially longer waiting times during border checks as the authorities and the airport manage the transition to the new digital registration process.
Budapest Airport has been working closely with the relevant authorities for several months to prepare for the EES launch.
They are committed to ensuring smooth passenger flow and are helping the process by:
Publishing official information and airport-specific FAQs on their website.
Increasing the number of on-site staff to assist passengers.
Important Note for Expats
For passengers traveling with an EU passport, there is no change to the existing border crossing process.
For those requiring detailed official information, further resources are available on the European Union's dedicated website.
