The government feels it is wrong for the Tanítanék (I want to teach) teachers’ movement to “take politics into schools”, but does not underestimate the civil disobedience protest organised by the movement on Wednesday, government office chief János Lázár said.

The 4th Friss Hús International Short Film Festival opened on the 30th of March at Toldi cinema in downtown Budapest, and runs until 3rd April. The selection contains Hungarian and international short films from the last year. All the short films will be screened with English subtitles.

Prices for public catering services are expected to drop as a result of the planned nationalisation of such services, daily Magyar Idők reported. Talks have already started about transferring control over all public catering services from local councils to the state. Government office chief János Lázár said prices could drop as a result of the move.
Retailers Join Forces To Help Children In Need In Hungary

The Hungarian subsidiaries of multinational retail giants ALDI, Auchan, Lidl, Penny Market, SPAR and Tesco are supporting an initiative to help children in need with HUF 5 million each in food donations, enough to feed 10,000 children for one month, in poor villages around the country, according to a press release.

A commemoration was held to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881-1945) in the Budapest Farkasrét Cemetery on Friday. “We must continue to duly preserve and further promote Bartók’s legacy,” the human resources minister told MTI after the event.
