After ten years of renovation, the Liszt Academy of Music will reopen on October 22, the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice announced on Tuesday. The reopening of the famous institution, founded in 1875, will also mark the 202nd birth anniversary of its founder, Franz Liszt. The academy nurtures the cultural heritage of Franz Liszt, Zoltán Kodály, Béla Bartok and Ernő Dohnányi.

The amount of state funding for culture will rise by 17 billion forints (EUR 57m) next year, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated in Hódmezővásárhely, on Sunday. What can one say about the newly introduced ethics textbook for Hungarian fifth graders? For starters, it is not, strictly speaking, an ethics text. Ethics is not a branch of religion, and being ethical is not the same as following the law or adhering to societal norms. So a textbook that lauds religious virtues and advocates unquestioning civil obedience doesn’t belong in an ethics class.
