The Zemplén Festival in northeastern Hungary will celebrate its 25th anniversary, with a focus on classical music and jazz, between August 12 and 21. Some sixty events will be held at over thirty venues in nearly twenty towns and villages, festival director Miklós Turjányi told public news channel M1.

Richard Strauss was born 150 years ago, in 1864. For many, he is a creator of operas, the composer of Salome, Elektra, Der Rosenkavalier, and The Woman without a Shadow. For others, his name signifies symphonic poems such as A Hero’s Life, Till Eulenspiegel and Zarathustra. He was also responsible for great lieder, like the incomparable Four Lasts Songs.
