Zemplén Festival Celebrates 35 Years with Diverse Acts this August
- 9 Jul 2026 8:23 AM
For the first time, the festival will extend beyond August 20, with organisers citing tourism considerations for the change. The event will open in Sarospatak with a concert by the Budafoki Dohnanyi Orchestra and close with a performance by the Liszt Ferenc Chamber Orchestra.
Highlights include collaborations with the Magna Cum Laude funk rock band, chamber formations of the BDZ, and jazz concerts by Hungarian artists.
Literary and theatre events will feature H Miklos Vecsei and Gergely Balla's joint Attila Jozsef evening, as well as a solo performance by Pal Macsai.
Venues will range from historical castles and churches to wineries, where music will be paired with local wine and gastronomy. The festival will also feature seven fine art exhibitions.
The Zemplen Festival, first held in 1992, remains committed to free events in smaller settlements and major towns, ensuring broad accessibility.
Funding is secured through state, corporate, and private support, including a 50 million forint (EUR 141,000) contribution from local entrepreneur Jozsef Sandor.
