Central Médiacsoport has sold TV channels Story4 and Story5, CEO Zoltán Varga informed a Wednesday conference. He would not disclose the price nor the name of the buyer, but promised to make an official announcement. Former minority owners of Sanoma Media Budapest may be the buyers, napi.hu speculates.

Varga: Hungarian Govt Not Mulling Corporate Tax Changes

The government is not planning to change the taxation rate for companies next year but the longterm goal is to have a flat-rate tax, Mihály Varga, the economy minister, told a press conference. Presenting details of the government’s tax proposals, Varga said that small and medium-size ventures would continue to pay a 10% corporate tax, and large companies 19%.

The Central Statistics Office on Friday reported year-on-year deflation of 0.5% in September, below analysts’ expectations of a 0.3% drop. Core inflation, which excludes energy and food prices, was up 1.4% year-on-year but down 0.1% month-on-month.

Incumbent István Tarlós leads all other Budapest mayoral candidates with 37% support, according to a Medián poll. The survey, conducted last week, found Modern Hungary Movement candidate Lajos Bokros with less than half the support of former left-wing candidate Ferenc Falus, at 5%, versus Falus’s 12%.
