Retailers Slam New Food Import Rules In Hungary
"Food importers have had to report the volume and price of imported foodstuffs to the agricultural administration office two days prior to the import from the end of August, based on the new food safety regulations.

Tesco said its administration has increased markedly, while it is very hard to anticipate imports. Purchase prices are business secrets and retailers are loath to reveal them to third parties, the hypermarket chain added.

In some cases, a decision on a food import is made only 24 hours beforehand, so the rule is hard to observe, retail association chairman György Vámos argued.

Price information does not equate to quality information, retailers commented."
