Sólyom, Paczolay Slam Fidesz In Hungary
"Constitutional Court president Péter Paczolay, former president László Sólyom and one-time constitutional judge István Kukorelli criticised Fidesz’s attempts to attack the Constitutional Court and the Constitution at a conference sponsored by Eötvös Loránd University and the US Embassy Tuesday.

Sólyom said there is no Constitutional Court without legal reviews and a right to void bills. To scapegoat the Constitution erodes people’s faith in the constitutional process, he added.

Paczolay asserted that it is “a grave mistake” to dismantle the prestige of the present Constitution by suggesting that it is poor, because this means that the new Constitution may also be called illegitimate and worthless.

Kukorelli said a state governed by the rule of law cannot be realised by acting against a state governed by the rule of law, and an independent Constitutional Court is the essential institution for defending the Constitution.

All three of the men are seen as staunch conservatives."
