Marrakech Photo Exhibition In Eklektika Restolounge Budapest, 18 December
"Marrakech: even the name conjures associations of magic and mystery. Once glorious and prosperous imperial city, modern Marrakech went through several incarnations. For some decades the city excited the imaginations of many Westerners dreaming of perpetual summer and freedom.

The hippies *discovered" it in the sixties, then the jet set, artists and adventurers of every hue and color dutifully followed. For some time Marrakech seemed forgotten, only to be reinvented into a party stronghold in recent years.

Jürgen Henning, German photographer living in Budapest ,has captured the spirit of old Marrakech in a series of photographs on display 18 December- 24 January at Eklektika restolounge.

The photographs are a testimony that, oblivious to the changes of Westeners' whims, old Marrakech never seized to exist. The images capture the bustling life of the city: the narrow streets of the Souks and the legendary Djemaa el Fna, the "Square of the hanged man".

Stage for storytellers, snake charmers, and water carriers by day, the square transforms into a an endless bustling open-air eatery by night. Watching the photos you can almost smell the enticing aromas and experience the richness of colors.Jürge's curious eye and camera also ventured in some "Maroccans only" neighborhoods and captured some unique moments of every day life of the city.
