Budai recalled that he met first counsellor Timothy Betts of the US embassy in a cafe on May 19, 2011 and provided detailed information about Hungary’s accountability process.
He said Betts asked him about the proceedings against Gyurcsany and the suspension of his right to immunity.
Budai added that he met with ten ambassadors one month before the meeting, including America’s Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis, who posed him several questions about the Sukoro case.
The then Israeli ambassador was also concerned by his work, Budai recalled, and showed interest in the Sukoro case and the role of Hungarian-Israeli investor Joav Blum.
He said he will meet ambassadors again on January 24 and continues to be open to brief them on accountability.
The prosecutor’s office confirmed to HirTV that the US embassy had asked for information on major criminal cases. A spokesman said the information is publicly accessible.
The US embassy said it has often sought information from the Prosecutors Office, as well as from many other government offices."
