Education to be Strategically Important Sector Under New Government in Hungary

In a Facebook post, Magyar said that the transformation of the education system, and the process of making it better and more child-friendly, would draw on the expertise of every Hungarian teacher.
He said all parties agreed on the need for clear goals to build a modern, competitive and child-centred education system.
"A good education system and school is one where students gain practical, real-life knowledge in manageable amounts," Magyar said.
"It is one where teachers can excel in their profession, receiving both financial and professional support; and where parents can trust that their children are safe and receiving the most up-to-date knowledge, with a real chance to succeed in adult life according to their talents."
Magyar said successful education relied on trust and cooperation among teachers, students, parents and civil groups.
He also highlighted the need for more specialists alongside teachers in the educational process, and for the state to ensure a steady supply of new professionals and workshops to provide modern pedagogical knowledge.
"We agreed with the headmasters that we must make the teaching profession attractive enough to draw our most talented young people, because only with their help can we build a functional and humane Hungary," he added.
The meeting was attended by headmasters from schools across Hungary, including the Cistercian Saint Imre Grammar School of Buda, Budapest's Kempelen Farkas Secondary School, Illyes Gyula Secondary School and Vocational Secondary School, the ELTE Trefort Agoston Grammar School, Foldes Ferenc Secondary Practice School, the Piarist High School in Budapest, Revai Miklos Secondary School, the Benedictine High School of Pannonhalma, Eotvos Jozsef Secondary School, the Deak Square Lutheran Secondary School, Veres Palne Grammar School, the ELTE Radnoti Miklos Practice School, St. Stephen Secondary School, Veres Peter Secondary School and Lovassy Laszlo Grammar School.
Tisza to also boost economic productivity, efficiency of SME sector
The Tisza government is committed to improving the business environment for enterprises; it will increase economic productivity and the efficiency of the domestic SME sector through a comprehensive series of measures, Istvan Kapitany, the party's nominee for economy and energy minister, said on Tuesday.
Kapitany said on Facebook that the key to a truly competitive economy lay not in assembly plants attracted by billions in state funds, but in strong, competitive and export-capable domestically owned SMEs.
Hungarian SMEs had so far faced serious challenges on multiple fronts, losing out in price competition due to inflation, while their access to external financing had been insufficient, he added.
Uncertainty had been further exacerbated by high energy prices paid by corporate consumers, a weak forint and an unpredictable regulatory environment, he said.
The "misguided economic policies of recent years" had tended to "funnel state and EU funds to companies affiliated with the system of national cooperation that are uncompetitive on a market basis", he added.
Kapitany said it was understandable that the lag in Hungarian SME productivity had become entrenched, which in turn had put Hungarian entrepreneurs and employees in a difficult position.
In line with a European Commission report, in 2024 the value-added of the Hungarian SME sector declined by one of the largest margins in Europe, while Poland and Bulgaria recorded significant growth, he said.
