Lawyer Pours Paint On Horthy Statue In Hungary
Lawyer Peter Daniel poured red paint on a wooden statue of inter-war regent Miklos Horthy in Kereki, Somogy county last Tuesday night. Daniel then hung a board with the caption “mass murderer, war criminal” in Hungarian around the statue’s neck. The statue, unveiled on Sunday has now been removed from its plinth and taken away.

Kereki mayor Lajos Marton condemned the incident. “Even if I disagree with erecting the statue, I also disagree with this vandalism,” he said.

Jobbik MP Gyorgy Szilagyi reported Daniel to an unspecified prosecutor's office and cited the need to reopen the National Psychiatric Institute “so the visibly mentally-injured Daniel and his intellectual role model Ferenc Gyurcsany can be incarcerated there without delay.”

Daniel formerly caused several scandals, Magyar Hirlap observes, such as smearing the Proclamation of National Co-operation.

Siofok Police have ordered an investigation.
