Heat Warning In Effect, Record Smashed In Hungary
The National Meteorological Service has extended the highest, third degree warning for the whole country until midnight on Wednesday because of the steady heat. The daily mean temperature could reach 26-27C in the north-east border region, and 28-30C in a considerable part of Hungary. The State Medical Service says extremely strong ultraviolet radiation represents a very big risk as one could burn in just ten minutes.

A more than 60-year-old heat record was smashed on Monday in Budapest. Peak temperature measured on this day in 1950 was 35.7C but yesterday 37.3C was recorded.

The national record was 38C in Orosháza in 1905 but this was also shattered on Monday with 38.4C at Túrkeve.
