Hungarian Hussars Detained In Sweden
Hungarian hussars were detained in Amal, Sweden on Wednesday after local residents filed a report with the police upon seeing the horses in poor health. The hussars rode from Hungary to Amal and are suspected of covering more than 200 miles without stopping, with scars appearing on the horses’ hoofs and lice on their bodies.

The horses were put under supervision of a local veterinarian who said the horses must rest at least two months to regain their strength. The hussars were detained on suspicion of torture of animals but released on Tuesday. They denied torturing the horses.

The Defence Ministry stated that it only provided moral support to the hussar team of two men and one woman, but neither the ministry nor the Hungarian state gave any financial support. It confirmed that the charge of animal torture has been dropped against the three.
