Castle In Gyula, Hungary, Wins Ft 2bn From EU
The Gyula local council has won Ft 1.995 billion in non-refundable EU funding from the New Széchenyi Plan for renovating the Harruckern-Wenckheim-Almásy castle, Fidesz mayor Ernő Gergényi told reporters in Gyula, south-east Hungary on Monday.

György János Harruckern, owner of the Gyula estate, began to have the castle built around 1725. Through marriages it was transferred to the Wenckheim family toward the late 1700s and later to the Almásy family. They became impoverished during World War II and donated the castle to the town in 1945.
