Mesterházy Envisages Coalition In Hungary
- 25 Sep 2012 9:00 AM
Speaking at an event hosted by the Szabad Európa Társaság, Mesterházy criticised LMP for refusing to co-operate with other parliamentary opposition parties.
He said the Socialists are seeking ways of co-operating with other democratic parties and NGOs, but must prepare to defeat Fidesz alone if no such co-operation develops.
Mesterházy said the stakes in the 2014 elections will be the highest since 1990, as the Orbán cabinet has “smashed the state governed by the rule of law and destroyed the economy”.
Socialist executive Tibor Szanyi asserted in an interview with Magyar Hírlap that LMP is a satellite of Fidesz.
He added that opposition groups Milla, 4K! and Solidarity are merely mysterious names to those in small towns and villages.
Describing Fidesz as so unpopular that it could collapse at any moment, Szanyi said he would not rule out the possibility of parliamentary elections before 2014.
