Many Moped & E-Scooters Riders Without Mandatory Insurance in Hungary

Around 55-60pc of the close to 700,000 mopeds and 70-80pc of the some 50,000 electric scooters in Hungary are not covered by compulsory third-party insurance, according to an estimate by the Hungarian Association of Independent Insurance Brokers (FBAMSZ).

FBMASZ noted that third-party liability insurance has been required for high-powered electric scooters since the summer of 2024.

Annual premiums for third-party policies average HUF 8,000-10,000/year for mopeds and HUF 5,000-6,000/year for electric scooters, the association said.
