Waste Incinerator Plan Abandoned In Hungary
- 23 Nov 2012 8:00 AM
Plans to build a waste incinerator at Heiligenkreuz, Austria, just a few hundred metres from Szentgotthárd, have been scrapped, it was announced on Thursday. Michael Gerbavsits, spokesman for Energie Burgenland, said economic changes in recent years have rendered the project unviable and it no longer fits the company’s business strategy.
The announcement marks a huge victory for Hungarian and Austrian environmentalists, and puts an end to a six-year saga that cast a pall on relations between Austria and Hungary, Magyar Hírlap observes.
