MPs Expense Claims Riding High In Hungary
MPs have run up more official expenses in the past three years than in the previous four years, the tabloid Blikk reported on Tuesday. The tabloid found that the ten MPs claiming the most expenses have collected at least Ft 25 million each so far and could rake in a further Ft 11-12 million before the next elections.

The biggest accounts could reach Ft 40 million over four years, as against Ft 24 million in the previous term.

Fidesz’s Richárd Hörcsik has claimed more expenses than any other MP, followed by Jobbik MP István Apáti.

Expense accounts comprise two parts, one for accommodation totalling Ft 115,950 a month, paid to those not from Budapest who live in the city or those who have no home in their own constituency.

The larger part is the constituency supplement, for those not living in the capital, which can be a monthly Ft 140,000-672,000.
