Agreement Signed On Student Aid In Hungary
The parties to the Higher Education Round Table – university leaders, students and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce – yesterday signed an agreement on obligations to be taken on by students who accept state aid for post-secondary education.

The deal states that such students will, within 20 years of graduation, work in Hungary for as long as the period in which they received state aid.

Human Resources Minister Zoltán Balog told reporters that a more flexible system has been created, adding that this is in line with EU expectations.

Balog said higher education students will have three options for financing their education: to pay tuition fees themselves, to accept state grants, or through the Diákhitel 2 loans.

Such loans are issued directly to the university or college on behalf of the student, so that the funds cannot be used for purposes other than tuition fees.

A related amendment has been submitted to Parliament and will be relayed to the EU.
