30th Anniversary Celebration Series by Fono Music Centre Budapest
The Buda Fono cultural and music centre has launched a programme series featuring concerts, folk-dance teaching and round-table discussions in celebration of the centre's upcoming 30th anniversary, its managing director announced.

"We need not fear the day to day because we have creative artists and energies coming to Fono who make this institution unique," Laszlo Horvath told a press conference, adding that

"Fono is the Carpathian Basin's headquarters of folk-dance teaching, and people have kept coming every Wednesday over the past 30 years".

World music made its debut in Hungary in Fono in the second half of the 90s, where "Hungarian, central European and the Balkan's world music appeared simultaneously", he said.

It will actually celebrate its 30th birthday next September, and events will feature prominent artists who have performed there over the past 30 years, Horvath said.

Fono is the only central and eastern European publisher to be listed by Womex, the world music expo, he added.
