600 Flood Evacuees Still Homeless In Hungary
Some 600 people forced to evacuate their homes due to the recent floods are still unable to return, flood repair commissioner György Bakondi said yesterday. He told reporters in Nagymaros that 1,570 people had to leave their homes, of whom 976 have returned.

Most of Margaret Island remains closed, although its two hotels are open again. The rest of the island continues to be off limits to the public, as trees could fall because of the saturated soil.

Bakondi said 42% of the temporary dikes erected along the Danube have been dismantled, and that more than 1,550 people took part in flood repair works.
