- 16 Dec 2013 8:00 AM
Gaining autonomy will be the only way for the Hungarian community in Romania to solve their problems in the long run, Hungary’s state secretary for Hungarian communities abroad said in Cluj (Kolozsvár). Zsuzsanna Hungary’s heightened involvement in guaranteeing peace between the Albanian and Serbian communities of Kosovo is expected to do benefit to the co-existence of Serbians and ethnic Hungarians, the minister said.
The government is mulling sending to Kosovo a part of Hungarian forces withdrawn from Afghanistan, he added. Hungary has participated in KFOR since 1999.
Currently over 200 Hungarian soldiers serve in Pristina, performing a variety of operations including patrols, escorting VIPs and convoys, reconnaissance and manning checkpoints.
