Hungary’s B.My.Lake Is The Best New Festival
The European Festival Awards has finished with the success of the Hungarian festival scene. B.my.Lake the newest member in the portfolio of Sziget Cultural Management has won the category of ‘Best New Festival’, while all other nominated festivals: Sziget Festival, VOLT Festival and MasterCard Balaton Sound are among the best festivals of Europe.

Presented in association with YOUROPE and Eurosonic Noorderslag the European Festival Awards took place last night in Groningen, The Netherlands. This is the third time in a row that Sziget Cultural Management takes home an award as Sziget won the category of ‘Best Major Festival’ in 2011 and last year Balaton Sound earned the award for ‘Best Middle-sized Festival’.

This year the freshest member, B.my.Lake, won its category, the ‘Best New Festival’ title. The award was received by the two executives of VOLT Production: Norbert Lobenwein and Zoltán Fülöp.

Károly Gerendai, founder of Sziget Cultural Management, said: “It is the success of the Hungarian festival scene that all of the nominated festivals in our portfolio: Sziget, VOLT Festival, Balaton Sound and B.my.Lake were shortlisted to the top 10 of their category. Sziget Festival is yet again among the top 10 in the “Best Major Festival” category, moreover decided by the votes and the EFA jury Sziget is also in the top 10 in the “Artists’ Favorite Festival” and “Best Line-up” categories as well.”

Receiving the most prestigious acknowledgement on the European festival scene, B.my.Lake has early become the center of attention. Hosting over 120 DJs, the 3-day electronic music festival, takes place right on the beach of the biggest lake of Central Europe, Lake Balaton, in mid-August.

This year Fruzsina Szép, Program Director of Sziget Festival, also had the honor to hand over the award to Imagine Dragons, winners of the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ category.

B.my.Lake is the official afterparty of this year’s Sziget Festival, so those enthusiastic festival-goers who would like to continue their festival experience after the ‘Island of Freedom’ on the 18th August can move right to the beach of Balatonaliga. B.my.Lake will be held between 18-21 August in 2014 and combined tickets will be available soon for the double festival experience.
