Planet Lens International Nature Photography & Film Festival Veszprém, 15 - 18 May
From 15th to 18th May, Veszprém becomes the centre of passion for nature as the International Nature Photography and Film Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary with a grand event in the City of Queens.

Previously held in Gödöllő in recent years, the festival now arrives to Veszprém under a new name, Planet Lens, bringing with it a refreshed concept. Over four days, it will create something truly special by merging culture, environmental protection, sustainability and shared experiences.

The free event kicks off on the evening of 15th May with an official opening ceremony and the screening of the film Changing Wilderness – My North at ActiCity Dance and Movement Arts Centre. The opening address will be delivered by the festival’s chief patron, János Áder.

Festival-Nominated Works on Screen and Displayed Outdoors

Planet Lens both inspires action and showcases the beauty of nature through the finest international and Hungarian films and photographs. Hundreds of entries were submitted across the festival's designated categories; the selected works will be screened or exhibited outdoors during the event.

A formal awards ceremony will also take place during the festival, where the creators of the best nature films and photographs receive their prizes on 17th May – including fine porcelain artworks crafted by Herend Porcelain Manufactory.

Diverse Side Programmes from Sustainability Workshops to Stargazing

The festival offers unique experiences for all ages. Events are free to attend throughout the festival – from children to adults – with only simple registration required in some cases via the festival’s website (planetlens.hu).

The organisers – Blue Planet Foundation, the National Film Institute and Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Jsc. – have envisioned a vibrant festival that not only focuses on environmental awareness and sustainability but also highlights the importance of healthy, mindful living and community building.

Events take place at various central locations in Veszprém, both indoors and outdoors, including ActiCity, FOTON Audiovisual Centre, House of Arts, CODE Centre of Digital Experiences and Expresszó Club, as well as on Erzsébet Promenade, which also hosts a wide variety of programmes.

In addition to screenings, visitors can look forward to creative workshops, photography basics sessions, themed walks and informative talks and discussions. You can bring new life to recycled materials at exciting workshops, attend talks on astrophotography and wildlife photography, observe the night sky through telescopes, join in community board games or even immerse yourself in a live music concert.

Planet Lens is not just an event – it is an inspiring space where we can marvel at the natural world around us, while also learning to understand, appreciate and protect it. Let us watch, see and think together for a greener future!
