While the number of fraud cases rose by 44% compared to 2023, the total value of damages fell by 4.5%.
However, fraud involving bank cards increased, with a 6.4% rise in cases and a 2.9% rise in total damage.
Surveys indicate that 60% of the population has encountered internet fraud, and 15% have fallen victim.
Fraudsters commonly make contact with potential victims via phone, SMS, email, or fake websites.
Gábor Bártfai, head of information security at CIB, recommends that individuals be cautious with their account information, avoid sharing it, and carefully review online transactions.
In addition, CIB adds, setting transaction limits, using notifications, and alerting the bank and police in case of fraud can help mitigate damage.
