Russian Passengers To Dominate At Balaton Airport In Hungary
The number of passengers arriving from Russia at western Hungary’s Sármellék airport near Lake Balaton is expected to double this year, the town’s mayor told MTI. The airport near Hungary’s popular tourist resort handled 6,000 Russian passengers last year and expects to receive 12,000 this year with new prospective services, said Gábor Papp.

He confirmed an earlier report from the aviation magazine Airline Route saying that Russian carrier UTair will from March 23 operate a scheduled flight from Moscow Vnukovo once a week on Sunday with a Boeing 737- 800 aircraft.

Also from late next month, Yakutia Airlines will again start to operate its weekly charter flights from Moscow, he said.

Listing other destinations, the mayor noted the charter services from the German cities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Leipzig and Hamburg, and new services to be launched next month from Friedrichshafen and Basel. In 2012, when the town took over the airport, 19,000 passengers were registered at Sármellék and last year 28,000.

This year’s expectation is 35,000, said the mayor.
