Hungary's Ruling Party Fidesz Fearful Of Raising Hopes Too High
Fidesz is confident of an election victory, but some members would prefer that the party not win another two-thirds majority, Népszabadság writes today. Results of the party’s internal polls in all 106 constituencies agree with those of the major pollsters in suggesting that “it can almost be taken for granted” that Viktor Orbán can form his third cabinet after April 6.

However, Népszabadság says several well-known Fidesz politicians have expressed hope that the two-thirds majority “genuinely belongs to the category of miracles”, as “a two-thirds parliamentary majority means a responsibility which it is hard to live with, especially when expectations are excessive”.

The source suggested that an extraordinary situation has occurred in that Orbán and Fidesz have not drawn up a formal election platform, because they do not want to make promises that could lead to “overspending” after the elections.
