Hungary's Inflation Enters Negative Territory
Consumer prices were 0.1% lower in April than one year earlier, a phenomenon not seen since 1968, the Central Statistics Office announced on Tuesday.

Prices rose by only 0.1% from the previous month.

Analysts attribute the 12-month fall to the series of state-imposed cuts in utility prices.

Core inflation – which strips out energy and food prices – stood at 2.4% year-on-year and -0.1% month-on-month.

Low inflation is not unique to Hungary, Zoltán Török of Raiffeisen pointed out, as it was 0.7% in the eurozone last month.
