Comprehensive Report By Hungary’s Tokaj Wine Region Council
The Mountain Village Council of the Tokaj Wine Region will prepare a comprehensive assessment of the historic Tokaj wine region by the end of the year, chairman of the council Miklós Prácser told MTI. The body wants to get a clear view of plantations in the region, the winemakers’ properties and assets, wine reserves stored in cellars, and the sociological situation of people working with wine.

The objective is to have the wine region once again join the small and exclusive club of premium wine regions in the world. An information database would be the basis to achieve success in development tenders and long-term schemes for producers under the arrangements of the “WINE REGION Tokaj Mountain National Programme”.

The government decided last year to give the Tokaj Wine Region of 27 villages the status of priority development region and to launch a national programme. In support of the first phase of the programme, the cabinet has approved the reshuffling of 33 billion forints (EUR 108m) worth of domestic and European Union funds. By the end of the decade, a total of 100 billion forints could be invested in the historic wine region.
