Hungary’s Socialist Party’s Outgoing Leader Mesterházy Wins Case Against Civil Org
The pro-government CÖF civil organisation has not yet decided whether to appeal against a court ruling on Wednesday which found in favour of Attila Mesterházy, the Socialist Party’s outgoing leader, who had sued over adverts during the election campaign depicting him and other leftist politicians in the company of a clown.

A Budapest court, however, dismissed the politician’s libel and defamation claim against CÖF.

László Csizmadia, CÖF’s founder, told MTI that he was consulting with his legal advisors and that he did not “completely” agree with the judgement.

He said the organisation had used a flattering photo of Mesterházy on its advertising hoardings and had not harmed the politician’s rights over his portrayal.
