Socialists Slam Fidesz Policies In Budapest
The ruling Fidesz party has changed the local electoral system in a bid to gain a majority in Budapest, the opposition Socialists’ group leader in the Budapest assembly said.

The new municipal electoral system is fraudulent, Csaba Horváth told a press conference, adding that Fidesz had decided after the general election on April 6 to amend the law after realising they might fail to secure a majority in the capital.

The Socialist politician also insisted that plans to move ministries out of the capital are also part of a “campaign” against Budapest. The city’s mayor, István Tarlós, who is likely to be Fidesz’s candidate for re-election, should be fighting for the city, yet he has been silent for months, he added.

The city of Székesfehérvá,r central Hungary, has already unrolled the welcome mat for the Defence Ministry and further moves from the capital will result in the loss of thousands of jobs in Budapest, he said.
